I am using a math input for the answer to a question. The word is division. It keeps changing the word in the input box to a division symbol. Is there coding to keep it from changing to a symbol and just accept the word?

As far as I know, there aren’t really any good ways to avoid this. Math inputs use LaTeX and “div” is the LaTeX call for the division symbol.
I’m assuming you are wanting to use math input for correctness, but LaTeX matching doesn’t work well for this. Math input is always going to be best utilized when it comes to things like numbers and equations. I would suggest changing it to a free response question (which would require teacher evaluation) or changing the question slightly so that something like a multiple choice or multiple select might fit better.
