I created this:

Just hoping if anyone can test for some bugs in it!
Thanks.

This is cool ⦠lots of work.
I think that the interaction with the user can be simplified ⦠the process to write the numbers is a bit too cumbersome.
You could create the number when the user clicks the digits without the need for the user to select each position ⦠just like in a normal calculator.
So yes, the calculator is cool ⦠maybe you can improve the user interface.
Cheers.
ok ok. Thatās a good suggestion, I will look into it.
Thanks!
Here is the updated version: Calculator in Desmos | Desmos
I see thereās a lot of stuff going on and that you made some cool stuff
but I didnāt understand how to use āslope, quadratic and plotā ā¦
Some of my users (friends) complained about that too.
The first ānumberā is the x
coordinate, and the second one is the y
coordinate. You use Plot
to plot the point and press Hide
to view the graph.
For Slope Mode
you need to plot 2 points (after pressing Plot
twice it will disappear) and then press Hide
to view the graph and slope. If you donāt see the slope calculated press the Slope
button.
You can read Help / Tutorial
.
You are clearly good at programming ⦠how old are you?
You added lots of options and features ⦠I think you can pause for a moment the addition of options and re-think the user interaction which is what needs more work now.
It is quite difficult to manage all those options especially in a setting like desmos ⦠so I would try to re-think the user interaction starting with less options. And after getting that right you can start adding some options back in. ā¦
Just an idea ⦠but of course you can also have fun adding more options and exploring desmos programming ⦠!!
Iām only 12, Iām just finishing 6th grade this year. I like computer science, math, and coding, so I just decided to join CL to see what itās like, and now I have to learn yet another coding language!
Youāve suggested changing the UI, but I donāt have much ideas on it. Could you give me an example that I can work on?
Also you can probably tell that Iām going to be entering this in the 2026 art expo in the 13-14 age group
The first thing I would simplify would be the way to input numbers.
It would be easier to let the user click the numbers and just keep track
of what the user inserted ⦠if the user presses 5, 3, 4 ⦠that would be
number 534. This is how the users expect the calculator to work.
Maybe you can try and create such an interaction from scratch on a new desmos graph ā¦
and when you get that working you can think about how to implement that in your calculator.
Just a suggestion.
btw: I took part to the 2024 Expo and I was among the winners ā¦
Thatās pretty cool⦠I actually looked at the graph when I was checking out the 2024 expo unknowingly that it was you who created it! Itās pretty cool.
At the early age of my project I did do that (make the user input 3 numbers then it loads into the calculator), but it didnāt really work out for me and resulted me to create this Position
thing. I may want to add a point with a label telling the user which mode they are in. I might also want to make it so when you are in Slope Mode
the button says Back to Plot Mode
instead of just Plot Mode
. Once I create at least one of these I will send you a copy.
I also realized that people under 13 canāt use this⦠please no ban
