My students are making conjectures about a geometric construction, and I’m wondering how I could provide some sort of pallet of geometric symbols for them to use so we can continue to work on our symbolization of geometric conjectures. Anyone have any ideas?
I’ve tried this a little before. If I’m asking them to type something into a table or text input, I’ve had a symbol bank in a note just above it from them to fill in. When you copy and paste latex stuff from a note it will add a back tick before and after sometimes.
Something that I haven’t tried but plan to is you can use initialcellcontent to have placeholder text that can be edited by a student in the table. Here’s a sample of a table with some geometry items you can edit using initialcellcontent in the table: Latex Initial Cell Content in Table • Activity Builder by Desmos Classroom, and here’s a copy of Jay’s symbol bank he posted a while back: Symbol Bank • Activity Builder by Desmos Classroom
Can you describe a bit more how you hope/envision your students will use the symbol pallet?
What do you want them to see and do, and what do you want them to learn/understand/discover by doing it?
Sorry this took a while. I want something like what you see in Google Docs for entering math symbols.
