Copy & paste into graph component on iPad?

When I am working on my computer in a browser, I can c&p a table (anything with vertical columns) into a graph component, and it automatically creates it as a table. My students all have iPads, so I was hoping this would work on the iPad as well, but it does not seem to give me a “paste” option in a graph component. Any workaround or something I’m missing that might make this possible?

I’m giving my Stats class an exam which will be on MyOpenMath, but I am directing them into a Desmos Activity to do a linear regression (they have randomized data, so I can’t just put the data into the activity). I wanted to show them how they can c&p, and they all have iPads, but they don’t all necessary have access to a computer.

I have this exact question

Thanks for reactivating this post. @cwinske found a solution:

”I … found a Reddit post that said c&p was disabled on mobile, although it was 5 years old. This led me to a different post where a buried comment mentioned that a triple finger tap brings up an option to paste, which worked! I ran a test activity and it also worked there. Here are the steps to get it to work:

  1. Copy data from spreadsheet

  2. Open graph, place cursor on empty expression

  3. Tap three fingers on the screen

  4. A menu shows up at the very top of the screen. One of the buttons on that menu is a paste button. For me, it was the only active button in that menu. Once I pressed the menu, it worked just like it does on a laptop.”

WOW! Thank you for this @Daniel_Grubbs (and thanks for poking this thread @Ray_LaFleur). I just tried it, and it was a bit tricky/awkward to get that 3-finger-tap just right, but indeed, once I did it gave me the menu with the paste option, and it worked!

I had pretty much given up on this (and most students these days seem to have a laptop, anyway) and I now give exams in a campus computer lab. But often, during class, a few students will still use their ipad to “follow along” when I’m demo-ing stuff. I’m so excited to know that this IS an option! :tada:

This worked like a charm! Thanks @Daniel_Grubbs! And thank you to @SqrtOfPi for the initial question!

I created a GPT that makes linear data sets for my students, and this fix will make all the difference!!!
